This piece just poured out of me. It was a stressful period in my life and I needed a distraction. I had these beautiful papers from my trip to Florence and was also thinking about two friends who had done incredible work in Rwanda and Northern Kenya. At the time my son was also working in Rwanda and he had shared how beautiful the hills were and the colors that punctuated them. Because he was doing intelligence work, he could not send me pictures.
I took this mélange from my mind’s eye and she emerged. There are tons of details – collage, acrylics, inks, pencil and pastels. To date, it is my absolute favorite work.
