I spent ten days in Giardini-Naxos, Sicily in May of 2022. The town sits in the Bay of Naxos and was founded by the Greeks in 734 BC. From my balcony, the Ionian see below was so beautiful and in the distance, Taormina towered over the the bay. The colors and smells were breathtaking and I was inspired to the a series of paintings to try and capture what I saw. The original painting was a 12" X 12" canvas mixed media collage (from my own homemade papers and recycled papers) acrylic and pastels. I used modeling paste to create the texture on the palm tree trunk. It made me so happy to paint this, I did two others that will be coming soon.
